We are pleased to inform you to a the Athlete Vishwaraj R. Jadeja, Indian Ice Skater (Long Track Speed Skating) after his historic Medal haul at the recently concluded WINTER WORLD GAMES, MASTERS 2020. In a first for INDIA.
Medal tally
3000mtrs -Silver medal 2nd position.
5000mtrs - Silver medal 2nd position
1000mtrs - Bronze medal 3rd position
10000mtrs - Silver medal 2nd position.
Standing on a podium with the Indian flag (which I have been carrying around for 9 years) means so much. From not being able to walk to be able to race and race at a certain level gives a lot of confidence in the efforts put in so far, we are doing at least something rite!
Eyeing for the Asian Winter Games and the Winter Olympics, the Indian ice skater from Ahmedabad, Gujarat splits his time between Netherlands and India for a prolonged number of years. India there is no infrastructure for Ice Skating Long Track speed skating. For this, these medals feel extra special.

Training under the champion maker coach Wim Nieuwenhuizen for  long-track speed skating in the Netherlands.
In a build-up, to the games, Vishwaraj had a series of near podium finishes in races across Europe from October 2019 to Jan 2020.
The Winter World Masters Games is the world’s biggest winter games festival with multiple disciplines with 50 countries and 3000 athletes participating.
“I competed after a prolonged break from the racing circuit. This year is poised to be a comeback year,” says Vishwaraj. The long-distance speed skater’s overall dream goal objective is to achieve standings and timings to qualify for the Olympics (Beijing 2022) in the Olympic season.
In January 2019, Vishwaraj Jadeja set an unofficial world record for the highest 5km distance ice speed skating (the standard Olympic distance), at Lake Tsomoriri in Leh, State of Jammu & Kashmir in India, which happens to be one of the highest frozen lakes in the world at an altitude of 4,500 meters.
Special mention for the continued support - Ice Skating Association of India, Sports Authority of Gujarat, Gujarat State Olympic Association Speed Skating Team Wim Nieuwenhuizen NL, Inepro NL, Valucent NL, Sports Ministry Gujarat, Home Ministry Gujarat, SAG Shaktidoot.
Thank you.
Warm Regards.

A frequently asked question that one often comes across is, “How important is a passion?” or “What lengths are we ready to go, just for passion?”. Well if there is anyone who is willing to answer this question and has set an example by way of his life is - Vishwaraj Jadeja, India’s Fastest Long-Distance Ice Speed Skater, who has gone on to set world records and put India on the map for Ice Skating. He trains as an elite athlete in the Netherlands and undertakes numerous adventure expeditions related to Ice Skating. The story of the expedition will be told in a documentary that is currently being edited. He certainly put India on the map for ice skating but it hasn’t been an easy feat. He says “This has been a very important one for me because it involves exploration and record-setting. I don’t want to leave any stone unturned when it comes to exploring adventure sports. With an abundance of frozen lakes in India, I wanted to explore the Indian landscape. We live in a country where this sport does not see much participation, and this record helped me build more awareness for the country to come forward and experience the sport. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my Producer, Mehirr Nath Choppra and team, Sinbad Extreme Sports, Schbang, Marg ERP, and J&K Tourism”. This is not the only record Vishwaraj has to his name. With 65 other national records, he surely has proven himself as a master of the sport. Some of his notable records would be for the fastest Indian for the 3K, 5K, and 10K long ice distance speed skating. He has also participated in the 2017 Asian Games over all the distances. Another record that he holds is competing in over 200 races for India. Hailing from a family of national level athletes, Vishwaraj has always been a sports enthusiast. With a special interest in roller skating, he rose to the level of captaining the Indian national team. Of course, like every athlete who loves their sport, he had only one dream and one goal - representing India at the Olympics. Unfortunately, roller skating isn’t part of the Olympic sports, and that made him look for similar opportunities to explore. It is then when he came face to face with ice skating and decided to go to Europe to train and master the sport. Of course, upon reaching the Netherlands, he realized that switching to ice skating from roller skating wasn’t going to be easy, and he dealt with his fair share of ups and downs until he met his current coach Wim Nieuwenhuizen, who is known to be one of the toughest coaches there is. With a simple statement “If you are crazy enough to come to my country to master my sport, I’m crazy enough to coach you”, began Vishwaraj’s journey as an ice speed skater. His training sessions were as crazy as one can imagine (think about an average of 5-6 hours of training, daily). He also spends a great amount of time on his cycle with the aim of 10,000 kms per year as part of his training and fitness program. So what is next on his plate? With these victories in hand he has his eyes on the Winter Olympics in 2022 and other international platforms like the Masters World Games (2020), the World Winter Games and the Asian Winter Games (2021). He also has a number of international races coming up where he will be representing India. Apart from that, he has his heart set on exploring frozen lakes across the world (between the altitudes of 4,000 metres - 5,500 metres) starting on the home turf.
